Our commitment
Veleryn Shop is run by one person, and accessibility is treated as part of building the site rather than as a later pass. A store nobody can check out of is not a store.
This statement describes the current state honestly, including what is not yet good enough. It is updated as things change.
Standard we aim for
The target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. This is the standard commonly referenced in relation to Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Conformance has been self-assessed rather than independently audited. No third-party certification is claimed.
What has been built in
- Keyboard operation. Every interactive element (navigation, filters, quantity controls, the whole checkout) is reachable and operable by keyboard alone, in a logical order.
- Visible focus. A clear, high-contrast focus ring appears on every focusable element. It is never removed.
- Skip link. A “skip to content” link is the first thing a keyboard user reaches on every page.
- Semantic structure. Real headings in order, real lists, real tables with header cells, and landmark regions so a screen reader can navigate by structure.
- Labelled forms. Every field has a visible, associated label. Errors are announced, tied to their field, and written in plain language rather than as codes.
- Image alternatives. Product images carry descriptive alternative text. Decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
- Colour contrast. Text and interface colours are chosen to meet the AA contrast ratios, and colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
- Reduced motion. The site respects the operating system’s reduce-motion setting and disables transitions and smooth scrolling when it is on.
- Resizable text. The layout holds together at 200% zoom without content being lost or requiring horizontal scrolling.
- Touch targets. Buttons and links are sized for comfortable tapping on a phone.
- No timed content. Nothing auto-advances, auto-plays or expires while you are reading it.
Known limitations
Being straight about what is not perfect:
- Product images are supplied by manufacturers. Where a pack’s own fine print is not legible in the photograph, the printed label on the product is the definitive source, and we will read any part of it to you on request.
- The site has been tested with keyboard navigation, browser zoom and automated checking tools. It has not yet been through a full manual audit with every combination of screen reader and browser.
- Pages that pull live data, meaning order status and the dashboard, have had less assistive technology testing than the storefront.
Assistive technology
The site is built with standard HTML and ARIA so it should work with current versions of NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack, Dragon and browser zoom or magnification. If your setup does not work here, that is a bug worth telling us about. Knowing which tool and version you use helps a great deal.
Reporting a barrier
If you hit something you cannot use, please tell us. It goes to the person who can change it.
- Email help@velerynshop.com with “Accessibility” in the subject line.
- Tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead.
- Your browser, device and any assistive technology you use, if you know them.
Reports are acknowledged within 1 business day. Fixes are prioritised by how much they block someone from actually buying or getting help.
Alternatives if the site does not work for you
